Programming doesn't have to be scary. You don't need to be using the latest packages, newest languages, or coolest containers to write a useful, fun project for yourself and explore programming in much the same way a hobby woodworker makes tables and stuff.
Programming can be a hobby and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
I decided to make a small site to allow my community to give me video recommendations, but I was worried about spam, malicious actors, etc. Without wanting to go the whole 9 yards with integrating with Twitch's auth system, I decided to integrate with Stytch for some low effort auth and limits setting. Who knew auth got easier in 2021?
And wouldn't you know it, now Twitch auth is an option with Stytch. I like to think I had something to do with that.
I spent an hour with my Twitch chat live coding a small sample site that shows off what the Javascript Web Audio API can do. Starting with a small base for UI display, together we took a piece of audio, added filters, reverb, and panning to it, transforming it in to immersive audio just by moving some sliders.
This codealong is a great spot to get your feet wet with Javascript and if you want to close your eyes and imagine you're in Paris eating some fresh bread and listening to a pianist get ready for tonight's concert in the theater next door.
I have a podcast with a friend and we were interested in uploading our episodes in full to YouTube. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to video edit and I'm busy with my job, streaming, the podcast, and writing articles like this, so it seemed like YouTube as a podcast platform was dead to us. I did a bit of research and it turns out both our podcast platform Buzzsprout and YouTube have APIs available for uploading, which meant if I invested the time, I could bundle up the uploading work in to one script and have it done even faster.
